A Building for Retirement

“My wife and I bought a four flat 20 years ago with the money we saved from selling 2 acres of land. At the time, we needed to really stretch to make the initial payments. It was not easy, but we recruited some very good tenants who stayed a long time. Over the past 20 years, we kept the building in good shape. We’ve replaced the roof, water heaters, installed window air conditioners and updated the electric.

At times, we thought about selling it but we always decided not to. Now, our building is paid off (we paid it off 10 years early) and it provides a very nice monthly income. The rental checks provide an excellent addition to our retirement and social security – plus it gives us the financial freedom to travel out of state whenever we want to visit our kids.
