Topic: Renting out my basement
My family owns a single family home. We live upstairs but would like to rent out our basement. We are remodeling and hope to rent soon. My question is can we do this or do we have to go somewhere and get permission?

It depends. If your building isn't set up as a two-family - you need to get it rezoned by the buidling or housing authority in your town. THis will involve building permits, blueprints, inspections, etc.
