CompleteLandlord.com Offers Profile of Residential Landlords- Surveys 1000 Landlords

CHICAGO, February 1, 2007 – There are approximately 10 million small and medium-sized residential landlords in the U.S. CompleteLandlord.com, a new online destination for residential landlords and real estate investors, recently surveyed over 1,000 landlords to develop a better understanding of this large consumer segment. Surprisingly, 68 percent of landlords surveyed have full-time jobs in addition to their landlording activities. This statistic dispels the notion that landlords are wealthy fat cats (passive investors) who simply sit back and collect rent checks.

Over 75 percent of the landlords surveyed do not use property managers and are constantly seeking help to manage their properties more productively and profitably. For example, 71 percent of landlords surveyed want access to jurisdictionally-specific real estate forms so they can comply with state and local housing ordinances. Sixty-six percent need access to eviction services in their local area to deal with problem tenants.

The breakdown of the 1,096 landlords was:

  • 59% male/41% female
  • 67% were over age 45
  • 37% had less than five years experience, and 54% had less than 10 years experience
  • 43% own houses, followed by 28% apartments and 9% condos
  • 59% own less than 10 units and 45% own less than 5 units

The publisher of CompleteLandlord.com, Scott Brueggeman, says, “As a residential landlord myself, I know how much work there is involved in being a landlord. And, there’s really no single online destination that provides solutions to help landlords manage their properties profitably and productively. Many residential landlords have other full-time jobs so it’s important to find ways to save time and money by doing things ourselves. That’s why we launched CompleteLandlord.com. It provides a wealth of great how-to information, numerous time and money saving tools, and a community Q&A forum where landlords and property investors can ask each other questions.”
